It just doesn't like to work with my iPad, or my photos, but I'm persistent.
Life is good! I've not been able to complete many projects that I can show at this time, but I've started plenty. We've been doing a lot of traveling, too.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-NPx6VqrgDjFayoGWaCRbVwICsroAL-XECqtLEtaKq177w86RVJfNDauaFQ1NnPOQu8P8KuGfj_zdQNS_4KkB06-DvFx2bXkcS2JTzoU2xlE-vzKshcU9r6Lv8fcrkwf30Rv5ApjxnqQ/"><img title="Big sky" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-NPx6VqrgDjFayoGWaCRbVwICsroAL-XECqtLEtaKq177w86RVJfNDauaFQ1NnPOQu8P8KuGfj_zdQNS_4KkB06-DvFx2bXkcS2JTzoU2xlE-vzKshcU9r6Lv8fcrkwf30Rv5ApjxnqQ/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="" /></a></div>

Two of them have the same busy sashing to make it harder to 'spy' and the third will have more of a solid sashing because I ran a it of this polka dot fabric. I don't want to buy more fabric, and didn't bring much with me to CA. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhucfJVSsnWjyhrDZT7jWlGe_zg0SR_tX2AsLNS5V_mkmL2yBU4uctmAR53Kfr2C6pD6ZX5QVZYuaWiWjU1guJIvmXiimEcBjJg09QN9yAqsojMBDZtYVefZ8m1JS3OtYVdAsVtIwZhA88/"><img title="Eye spy" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhucfJVSsnWjyhrDZT7jWlGe_zg0SR_tX2AsLNS5V_mkmL2yBU4uctmAR53Kfr2C6pD6ZX5QVZYuaWiWjU1guJIvmXiimEcBjJg09QN9yAqsojMBDZtYVefZ8m1JS3OtYVdAsVtIwZhA88/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Before I left Montana, I was busy blocking, binding and bleeding a quilt. Oh, my, that was scary. All that work only to find that the red had bled all over the white. Well, thankfully for Vicki Welsh Publishing an article on bleeding a quilt, I followed her directions and it worked beautifully. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here are the foam boards I tacked the quilt to.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm still struggling with publishing to this google blog from an Apple product, so my posts are few and far between. One day I'll have to make the leap to a wordpress platform...Well, thanks for stopping by and I hope all is well in your world.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For 2017 I have challenged myself to accomplish 12 tasks. Not to finish UFOs, or to make 12 quilts, but to accomplish 12 things. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: #282828; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"> </span></div>
<p style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: #282828; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">In no particular order, this is my list:</p>
<ol style="padding: 0px; color: #282828; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; margin: 12px 0px 12px 40px !important; list-style-position: initial !important; list-style-image: initial !important;">
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Finish the modern quilt design I started, piece and quilt it.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Dye Fabric</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use one piece of silk I purchased last year.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Finish one of the wholecloth designs I started, mark it and stitch it out.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use Derwent pencils on something</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use Paintsticks on something</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Design and complete the challenge quilt for Big Sky Quilt Retreat</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use EQ7 to design a simple quilt</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Bind, Block and Remove Bleed from quilt.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use new panto on a UFO</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use new panto on a UFO</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Finish grandkids eye spy quilts</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Make a charity/comfort quilt from stash.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Make a charity/comfort quilt from stash.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Use class notes from Sue Heinz' class to stitch on a quilt.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Stitch some gridded fills on a quilt.</li>
</ol>
<p style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: #282828; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"> </p>
<div> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjRgEZHNnP_xeGz0Pme0R_V25wP3RplL08plSY-yFsoApUKzOoh_VDtILx2NsjzrO6TxZomS2OBz3dqeq5I6tcgrxC1gW8yZiaHDA6DZ7JpO3NBdhNPLejgGhNdcn9XUzVsHuV1kKz0R0/"><img title="Coloring with my grandkids" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjRgEZHNnP_xeGz0Pme0R_V25wP3RplL08plSY-yFsoApUKzOoh_VDtILx2NsjzrO6TxZomS2OBz3dqeq5I6tcgrxC1gW8yZiaHDA6DZ7JpO3NBdhNPLejgGhNdcn9XUzVsHuV1kKz0R0/" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-json="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A couple weeks ago I was coloring with my grandkids. They wanted me to doodle something that they could color. This is the piece I kept for myself. Ironically it's the same colors of the fabric that I purchased last!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho1hGn8k1Y1mzV-04ERgNSKDg2zz1lRS383R-xgIrnjKvvtTrpuO7VRqoH3vHy5IhlZCIYbMnal_f79oGeKHkcULL9d1L8QL0QUAnJv0q0GM6Oj8AmZVKy5l64KtHbQJHnqSR_2AoceUA/"><img title="Fabrics for next quilt" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho1hGn8k1Y1mzV-04ERgNSKDg2zz1lRS383R-xgIrnjKvvtTrpuO7VRqoH3vHy5IhlZCIYbMnal_f79oGeKHkcULL9d1L8QL0QUAnJv0q0GM6Oj8AmZVKy5l64KtHbQJHnqSR_2AoceUA/" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-json="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And then to make it even more ironic, I rarely design a quilt in which the predominant colors are reds, (okay, one time I made a red and site quilt for a fundraiser) and I just painted over all the red in our house and replaced it with gray. (See all the red and gray in my colored doodle?)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">New paint colors </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8CmjpZzh6biU6FXY2OvEx7Wav5SPqkJoZKO0A4JLD0naLDkfgSwfUhVnxMZCk3zOwDOMK_3vooWOUEDVN4NIqcP_Nw5GXd4ECb92vGZT1_eq-BTVq9dhXPNM1vfuXzEIY6YZwdqp4Ej0/"><img title="New walls" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8CmjpZzh6biU6FXY2OvEx7Wav5SPqkJoZKO0A4JLD0naLDkfgSwfUhVnxMZCk3zOwDOMK_3vooWOUEDVN4NIqcP_Nw5GXd4ECb92vGZT1_eq-BTVq9dhXPNM1vfuXzEIY6YZwdqp4Ej0/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> This picture was from the real estate listing before we bought the home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTmnO2fPlELpHsdtbh8FZ31L3O7JMe1WYqg5N00P7tOUfvALaWs4-jiewkSsSRC9iLF3DeEwvUa_XwxJiIAgriLoBQfSImpi6MhhbOMLcocpEGGVKRLee3SxeQymwhsjJL_erZ9a5q0t4/"><img title="Old color" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTmnO2fPlELpHsdtbh8FZ31L3O7JMe1WYqg5N00P7tOUfvALaWs4-jiewkSsSRC9iLF3DeEwvUa_XwxJiIAgriLoBQfSImpi6MhhbOMLcocpEGGVKRLee3SxeQymwhsjJL_erZ9a5q0t4/" alt="" width="421" height="750" data-json="" /></a></div>
</div>
I guess all the painting made a lasting impression on me, huh?
</div>
</div>
See, we really are influenced by the colors around us! I hope you're having a great start to a new year, and I just may need a reminder to follow your blog. If you are reading this, take a moment to comment so I can check out your blog.

I sure hope that this app will allow me to post. I've been trying for weeks! I am trying a new mobile app to start logging again since my blogger app keeps crashing, and my blog has been linked to Google plus. Since Google hijacked my blog, I cannot add photos. I can't post from Internet explorer, either. That might be because I am an Apple user? When it asks me to choose a place to get my photos, none of the options work. So frustrating. Do you experience problems posting to your blogpost blog with Apple devices?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now, getting back to blogging about quilty things! I haven't finished anything lately. I have many irons in the fire, and many quilts in various states of completion, but nothing I can show right now. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This picture shows some Kona solids I pulled from the shelf to see how they might work in a new quilt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr-jb_2NOwhUYDBN3lVLIOfEdyo4hl3saFv83_RZ75A_MZuD4dailZgBCLKzgKOg0wXnawMfW4X3bwCda_Xy8DNsNjmw0HLe64BOCUSNh-R1ue1yAMiGed9xGM7Y1icN4HEGen4VB_Mlw/"><img class=" alignright" title="Choosing a Color Palette" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr-jb_2NOwhUYDBN3lVLIOfEdyo4hl3saFv83_RZ75A_MZuD4dailZgBCLKzgKOg0wXnawMfW4X3bwCda_Xy8DNsNjmw0HLe64BOCUSNh-R1ue1yAMiGed9xGM7Y1icN4HEGen4VB_Mlw/" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This was my inspiration I pulled from Pinterest.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicsNL_Gmoei160WKnv6saODE2OTTUtXkAa9Ail2Mew-bORvPnqoJIWAoLXR7CUifErLZLvsjb6a1Xtm12a1pk3mHtCPUaSjN6Z2zJ34_W2PvupKWYRqvTDfx-ATOX4KwU5WeYe3Dwt5uo/"><img title="Palette" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicsNL_Gmoei160WKnv6saODE2OTTUtXkAa9Ail2Mew-bORvPnqoJIWAoLXR7CUifErLZLvsjb6a1Xtm12a1pk3mHtCPUaSjN6Z2zJ34_W2PvupKWYRqvTDfx-ATOX4KwU5WeYe3Dwt5uo/" alt="" width="280" height="498" data-json="" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I have been so busy. I'm still playing my guitar, and have found a fabulous teacher. He has really motivated me to practice a lot. Yesterday I spent a couple hours transcribing one verse. It doesn't come naturally to me, but I guess it doesn't matter. I am enjoying myself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Well, let's hope this post actually works! Thanks for stopping by!</div>

The desert always shows us the best sunrises and sunsets, doesn't it?
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_MrzX5zVLtP7IrwXjiSLWuxotThbW1ieOkbl6AcPKziCsCLMcjTw_epjddbgPnW0_IJfO68IUJ1G51Ldn0Ge8HS3B7jueOlNMrDvmen1jvjxm3JhZQOLFvfchUuF-Of-3b9pIKm6CKPI/"><img title="Sunrise" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_MrzX5zVLtP7IrwXjiSLWuxotThbW1ieOkbl6AcPKziCsCLMcjTw_epjddbgPnW0_IJfO68IUJ1G51Ldn0Ge8HS3B7jueOlNMrDvmen1jvjxm3JhZQOLFvfchUuF-Of-3b9pIKm6CKPI/" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-json="" /></a></div>
I just arrived back in Montana, and that means I've got a studio with a longarm. And a quilt that is 80% done and waiting for me to finish!
<a style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisLyLI_mz53pi9ZKpQR8YGeeRqzTRiKnld70ICVqzbVrlLx8-9cbxSEaD24Jrzvxe3IrW8SVXYl7uUqWVs7sEfjW0D7gwIlb-7CfXdvWB3LNg9qD4VTmio9mEIsQEz3Vxz8v5QkgSvaL8/"><img title="Border" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisLyLI_mz53pi9ZKpQR8YGeeRqzTRiKnld70ICVqzbVrlLx8-9cbxSEaD24Jrzvxe3IrW8SVXYl7uUqWVs7sEfjW0D7gwIlb-7CfXdvWB3LNg9qD4VTmio9mEIsQEz3Vxz8v5QkgSvaL8/" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-json="" /></a>
It also means I've got to get reacquainted with everything in there, and unpack my bags of quilty 'stuff' that I haul between Montana, California, and Arizona. It takes me awhile to figure out what to take, and then I have to find places for everything when I get home. It's the story of my life for awhile, and I'm not complaining...much. I am a bit irritated when I can't find things. For instance, I know I uncovered my chalk and ounce pads in a bin in California, and was so happy! I had been looking for them for ages in Montana. Well, now that I am back I can't find them. I could have sworn I packed them. Oh well...

In my lsat post I said that it is okay to change your mind, at least I was giving myself permission to do that! Well, today, I am giving myself permission to give this up, and move on to something else. It was an experiment and I'm not terribly unhappy that I've decided to quit this. I didn't buy any fabric, in fact, I made myself just use stash. I learned some new circle techniques, as well as appliqué ideas. But this little project is going in a bag until I decided to toss it, or maybe I'll use that background for something else another day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am going to try some different techniques in the next few days. </div>

I'm not worried about how this will look now, I'm sure it will be good enough. This is not for a show, it's not for a paying customer (it's for my daughter), so I can do what I want. I've chosen some fun fills, and also some time-consuming semi-fun ones. You know how that goes, right? You start on a dense area, fun for the first hour, but then you begin to lose interest and by the time you're on the home stretch, you're absolutely sick of it! Kind of like winter snow, right? You love the first snowfall but are sick of it by February or March!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzQxNk3O5zZb7WUgrTLDB6dmpQex5LmOCyPHEy2HG5yWSEjyfLhnku29R89l8zD6us3pQMBaDRt6610evKG3Vh5Re7yu2TuBNZ2uCsBbCIZWCN2GFXLgK6ybQ_ajjafBQ52WV7goSwpp4/s640/blogger-image-1421168380.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzQxNk3O5zZb7WUgrTLDB6dmpQex5LmOCyPHEy2HG5yWSEjyfLhnku29R89l8zD6us3pQMBaDRt6610evKG3Vh5Re7yu2TuBNZ2uCsBbCIZWCN2GFXLgK6ybQ_ajjafBQ52WV7goSwpp4/s640/blogger-image-1421168380.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQ3zaVcDHQGEb1hESz2433VLOhmnqElvsgcrRw1LFlZv4f-QdD1wlTUgj3KKR5ZnQa5E5KapvdkPDOtmodi8jB6CK-Z2AMeLOghPR4e9EbTu-e6u-ZD2jX-bT2euIuEKJNpD-DKZV3Xs/s640/blogger-image-768064315.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdQ3zaVcDHQGEb1hESz2433VLOhmnqElvsgcrRw1LFlZv4f-QdD1wlTUgj3KKR5ZnQa5E5KapvdkPDOtmodi8jB6CK-Z2AMeLOghPR4e9EbTu-e6u-ZD2jX-bT2euIuEKJNpD-DKZV3Xs/s640/blogger-image-768064315.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I was driving home from my daughter's house on Wednesday evening and I stopped to take this picture. I have really been trying to challenge myself with my quilting and design skills. That means I am taking risks, big risks. For example, enlarging a letter, in this instance, an S, drawing it on the quilt top, stitching it out, not once, not twice, but three times, filling it in with fills, and then. Yep, you guessed it, I am ripping it out. I'm skinning again. Ugh! <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSJ6cYdY7T6QXq83CVljrxt_3jMf7Wrz2i7C8BOIHzblAhAJwpvW1haFvDoLYIgs_R0fzoqFA65V6kMp_e8YqXVFaF9U8szvZMsz7JKHq1MWPVSzEFR4rH-QFxLMEDxsfkkucvS-TjhUs/s640/blogger-image-700836618.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSJ6cYdY7T6QXq83CVljrxt_3jMf7Wrz2i7C8BOIHzblAhAJwpvW1haFvDoLYIgs_R0fzoqFA65V6kMp_e8YqXVFaF9U8szvZMsz7JKHq1MWPVSzEFR4rH-QFxLMEDxsfkkucvS-TjhUs/s640/blogger-image-700836618.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Why can't I decide before I do it? I need to remember that taking quilty risks is not for me, that is for the Jodi Robinsons, the Angela Walters, the Sharon Schambers. Why can't I stitch out a sample like Deborah Poole who stitches out her wholecloths completely before she does the real thing. Why am I never happy with what I do unless I am copying someone else? </div><div><br></div><div>I've read a couple books on design and creativity and taking risks, and copying. I have no issue at all skinning a queen size quilt if I don't like the quilting on it! Yes, I know! Early on in my early machine quilting days I quilted a beautiful quilt of my own. As my quilting abilities became more, um, mature, I just couldn't stand looking at the horrible job I had done, so I ripped out every single stitch - but not with a seam ripper. No! I used a rotary cutter. Disclaimer - I have never done this on a customer quilt, and doubt I would just because of that Murphy's Law thing. <div><br></div><div>On my own quilt? Yep! It's the fastest way to remove stitching I no longer like. If it's still on the frame and I only have a row or two to remove, I'll skin it on the frame, but if it's more than that, I'll sit with it on my lap and skin away.</div><div><br></div><div>So here we have my very first selfie video, and my very first attempt at You Tube. Super easy. </div><div><br></div><div>Hmmmm.... I can't seem to get it to link here. I hope it works. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://youtu.be/0Ty895GaF9c">https://youtu.be/0Ty895GaF9c</a></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05459560078924445277noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8128575378423549770.post-87393548778905401912016-07-07T05:07:00.002-07:002016-07-07T05:17:51.327-07:00I'm Back in Montana and Back to Work!It has been about six weeks since I have touched my longarm and at least two months since I set up a panto. I started off slow, but I am right back in the swing of things. This is my customer Joanie's quilt. Isn't it beautiful? I used the panto Splat by Anne Bright, Hobbs 80/20 batting, and Omni thread. I'm so thankful that I have this opportunity for income.<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDJEcF3-Jsj8zwGCz2pPDGMWczRZatx5CVAsSp6-4ip5A4TGSNQAbPLdfqgWALlw1Kkx6M84ERnnNTgmHNwBzfcsoZrfVmfrVNxA2tQzA55juaJq5Ss6E1wNjtgRp5JzZVYeG5G7pzsgM/s640/blogger-image-992817780.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDJEcF3-Jsj8zwGCz2pPDGMWczRZatx5CVAsSp6-4ip5A4TGSNQAbPLdfqgWALlw1Kkx6M84ERnnNTgmHNwBzfcsoZrfVmfrVNxA2tQzA55juaJq5Ss6E1wNjtgRp5JzZVYeG5G7pzsgM/s640/blogger-image-992817780.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi85dp8PmF8sqjLbYyIYz3B_8Ckhju6u9t0MtdKikdxcSFtRaOgyjiHLkQLak7m9_yTM57odypIjR36alx-fEBfUhlg8dgb-cPY-4oUzLi28oXGCBj0z1AAiDpxEsScO0sga3lsTfPiLSE/s640/blogger-image-1373129593.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi85dp8PmF8sqjLbYyIYz3B_8Ckhju6u9t0MtdKikdxcSFtRaOgyjiHLkQLak7m9_yTM57odypIjR36alx-fEBfUhlg8dgb-cPY-4oUzLi28oXGCBj0z1AAiDpxEsScO0sga3lsTfPiLSE/s640/blogger-image-1373129593.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br><div><br></div><div><br>

I had to drive the 19 hours back and forth (twice) from Montana to California myself, so I couldn't even do hand stitching in the car. Then flying to and from Eastern Europe was so hard, I just tried to sleep, I didn't even pull out the bag of hexies I took with me. <div><br></div><div>We had a fabulous time, and even though I wasn't do anything quilty, I still found some wonderful inspiration in the castle, church and Parliament floors, Windows, and ceilings. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIASUyavw31OisDRDzFso0LRBKGctvoQRhYGccQoCh8jKeNQQZfDPSs3vdecv6VN8xgZDpn0avjHgeJy4qbD8vTCxczPUQKBqruxl4FSPe7ykvF8J40-KDZLqDdB3Jf9bdBTFfCbWL1Ag/s640/blogger-image--1779793167.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIASUyavw31OisDRDzFso0LRBKGctvoQRhYGccQoCh8jKeNQQZfDPSs3vdecv6VN8xgZDpn0avjHgeJy4qbD8vTCxczPUQKBqruxl4FSPe7ykvF8J40-KDZLqDdB3Jf9bdBTFfCbWL1Ag/s640/blogger-image--1779793167.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK13ATU_qjgZgBB8Sq8tdh7XxCccAYVyDValcvlZW2zjrca_D8qqv1K7L_8AT022m8VGSNFCJW6Yrr96-4JJoqEQToigoi-WLg-GxGOddwilUAUE8wmXBpkqlykvJ0TWoJFgVQ3QkTxPU/s640/blogger-image--251099460.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK13ATU_qjgZgBB8Sq8tdh7XxCccAYVyDValcvlZW2zjrca_D8qqv1K7L_8AT022m8VGSNFCJW6Yrr96-4JJoqEQToigoi-WLg-GxGOddwilUAUE8wmXBpkqlykvJ0TWoJFgVQ3QkTxPU/s640/blogger-image--251099460.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTi0VM1Op9WEs_FOYZY5vxG09oScAFjea6x_GyPQ0_5csO2quupTvOW92f4OoRACm8zG_mI3eMW-Surwn3u0FZLoChTNO3Z9stqT826d6VxzT7-1MZdyF3ZGsnXhtHyzZLvYRKpsxoD10/s640/blogger-image--1954896694.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTi0VM1Op9WEs_FOYZY5vxG09oScAFjea6x_GyPQ0_5csO2quupTvOW92f4OoRACm8zG_mI3eMW-Surwn3u0FZLoChTNO3Z9stqT826d6VxzT7-1MZdyF3ZGsnXhtHyzZLvYRKpsxoD10/s640/blogger-image--1954896694.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH8VLph82E_DWQe3ystQFaCBdo7ZhEzL7VLaL0jtgA6gzDv8JH45urf1QkAmd7VIfhrGrv-3h6B-y4AALCwiD3K3Cz-PkwPOXwQWAw45rp46xvQOXVHsI6TjMlg9AisX3r6GRLyD5_ivY/s640/blogger-image-502593894.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH8VLph82E_DWQe3ystQFaCBdo7ZhEzL7VLaL0jtgA6gzDv8JH45urf1QkAmd7VIfhrGrv-3h6B-y4AALCwiD3K3Cz-PkwPOXwQWAw45rp46xvQOXVHsI6TjMlg9AisX3r6GRLyD5_ivY/s640/blogger-image-502593894.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga0GRpGuQSDvpWHZlTZV9tAozivCyz_MxmVrZ6Zgt0u2zSXRKSudb6xJQ_0E6nKD-xY5owC48QjgY68ZWFy74HJGnCbYgUqOqi4aFht_uCC3O9LUfjC9oIO2C4OgDxIDpVcOHKhTWtRlM/s640/blogger-image-1987088682.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga0GRpGuQSDvpWHZlTZV9tAozivCyz_MxmVrZ6Zgt0u2zSXRKSudb6xJQ_0E6nKD-xY5owC48QjgY68ZWFy74HJGnCbYgUqOqi4aFht_uCC3O9LUfjC9oIO2C4OgDxIDpVcOHKhTWtRlM/s640/blogger-image-1987088682.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2P6tZ_7Ebg71JP0mvQMl1ylkmvMwrAVL_w6DHLP0QTk7Vb5LRio6fW9HeU6hupYflkASD3tv0e-aHgmEpTFWbAKELGREC9cgyeT-ZD7Vc77OJ7QhOO4Z3NCDDDpU9ygc7V-zaqgn_obY/s640/blogger-image--1944993147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2P6tZ_7Ebg71JP0mvQMl1ylkmvMwrAVL_w6DHLP0QTk7Vb5LRio6fW9HeU6hupYflkASD3tv0e-aHgmEpTFWbAKELGREC9cgyeT-ZD7Vc77OJ7QhOO4Z3NCDDDpU9ygc7V-zaqgn_obY/s640/blogger-image--1944993147.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05459560078924445277noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8128575378423549770.post-32017279807323089742016-05-10T08:10:00.001-07:002016-05-10T08:10:59.474-07:00Focus! Focus! Focus! or lack thereof...While I was in California this past month, I think I started no less than six projects. It kind of drives me nuts that I do this, but this is how my brain works. I have no idea if I will finish any of them. I have really been struggling with confidence in my abilities and thinking I am creative enough. I couldn't think of any other way to fight that lack of confidence than to just do something. So I drew out three or four Wholecloth designs, and started an original pieced quilt, too. I purchased EQ7, too! Oh, my, I've forgotten that one. Along with that, I've been messing around with designs for this quilt top, and skinning the border on one I started last year. <div><br></div><div>Until my husband retires, I will be in a constant state of travel. I will be spending time here in Montana, then in California, and also to our condo on the Colorado River. I haven't even unpacked from my last trip, and will need to pack up in a couple weeks again. My last trip, I packed up enough projects for two years! NOT going to do that again (I really really hope I won't). </div><div><br></div><div>My focus for the next month or so is going to be quilting this top, and finalizing one Wholecloth design. There, I've said it, so now I have to do it, right?</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6nGQ6oEktTrxglu_9FdVcWPb_5x_3dp8339bwGoxBeVXm76okT9IB6AVf25zSSeIKiNVwF5QX890hzjZ_u0_UdU8YkHvd9UQ1vMhFQfazKrweeFQyDpNokd_hCZ-I5Rtl8DG3kU5DHP8/s640/blogger-image--611471264.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6nGQ6oEktTrxglu_9FdVcWPb_5x_3dp8339bwGoxBeVXm76okT9IB6AVf25zSSeIKiNVwF5QX890hzjZ_u0_UdU8YkHvd9UQ1vMhFQfazKrweeFQyDpNokd_hCZ-I5Rtl8DG3kU5DHP8/s640/blogger-image--611471264.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05459560078924445277noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8128575378423549770.post-54631080075937225292016-04-05T08:32:00.003-07:002016-04-05T08:45:46.690-07:00Teaching "Learn to Make a Quilt" was Rewarding!<div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">During the month of March I taught a series of classes to six adults though our community education program. It was so rewarding! I created a pattern using the Irish Chain block for table runners that finished at 18x42. I really wanted to keep it small so they could have a finished product. The first week was cutting, then we progressed to seeing the blocks, then machine quilting using a walking foot, and ending with the binding. I had to add a fifth class just to get all the information to them. </span></div><div><br></div><div>Three of my students finished their table runners in class (with the exception of hand stitching the binding down on the back), two students should have finished theirs at home because they had to miss the last class, and one student was a dropout. 😝</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">These ladies were great, and I'm so proud of them.</span></div></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV8XcOAfkuG-swbu5GfeygZr3GTTtM7UrAtEHDfzXZ1pV6ns3ZS1RAOVc7nRYkYwMcyO3L70o88tl7mF5tMuBUF-IqXj5UYFkaIggGiBqm50BIT6cF-7oFdrJ6a2uRR8j9XSCstKpnqF8/s640/blogger-image-980892006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV8XcOAfkuG-swbu5GfeygZr3GTTtM7UrAtEHDfzXZ1pV6ns3ZS1RAOVc7nRYkYwMcyO3L70o88tl7mF5tMuBUF-IqXj5UYFkaIggGiBqm50BIT6cF-7oFdrJ6a2uRR8j9XSCstKpnqF8/s640/blogger-image-980892006.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">These are the class samples I made to show them how using different fabrics can make a big difference. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6xw2cvhvx5dLWxlJtTvArLYtRU8-uJHEGt2J0JVLachSKOykCRG9Hpn_xn5ySWNvFvBdjzoSy0JKvGxru-tgohglMQkz2GqAm9H0eWHuDJb1KANhLoKQyAzDKpZq1hlBHYlSVwaee0TM/s640/blogger-image--1681796197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6xw2cvhvx5dLWxlJtTvArLYtRU8-uJHEGt2J0JVLachSKOykCRG9Hpn_xn5ySWNvFvBdjzoSy0JKvGxru-tgohglMQkz2GqAm9H0eWHuDJb1KANhLoKQyAzDKpZq1hlBHYlSVwaee0TM/s640/blogger-image--1681796197.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And on the non quilty side of my life, my husband spoiled me with not one, but two birthday gifts. I didn't want to use a panto, but I also didn't want to spend too much time doing custom. I want to make five of these now. OK maybe not five, but I did learn her process, and I think I can apply it to other images whether it be a photograph, or a drawn image which I have created, or a copyright free image that I find. It was really fun and got my creative juices flowing again!</div><div><br></div><div>It is also nice to have something to work on at night so my husband and I can spend some time together watching movies and I can be doing some handwork with this.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgB3MniKs-etavKAWU6EtZHkRqj4lEI3iTiMeoZncZg49EGzGqAKv_RStyy-Nl-AV_Qel-f3en3d-_hSQNRVUi9Xm-_LbsvM1ZnO2NRg2l30tqRVF_w4e06N1_sCYK941jB90uNfYQ2vo/s640/blogger-image-1026247670.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgB3MniKs-etavKAWU6EtZHkRqj4lEI3iTiMeoZncZg49EGzGqAKv_RStyy-Nl-AV_Qel-f3en3d-_hSQNRVUi9Xm-_LbsvM1ZnO2NRg2l30tqRVF_w4e06N1_sCYK941jB90uNfYQ2vo/s640/blogger-image-1026247670.jpg"></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I have not been able to do any machine appliqué on this because I do not have a blanket stitch on any of my five yes count them five sewing machines that I have here with me in Montana. I have recently allowed myself to dip my big toe back into Facebook and I read a post that mentioned an Academy of Appliqué. So being the curious person I am, I googled that, and came up with not one but two of those. That then led to at least four different online quilt class websites, two of which I had never heard of; Academy of Quilting, and iquilt. Geesh, who knew there was more than Craftsy? So that led me to YouTube, and from there I ended up on some site called, ICAP. International Association of Creative Arts Professionals. WTH? Then there is QNN and the quilting show. <br><br>I feel like I already spend too much online time absorbed in quilty things, and yet I am unearthing so many organizations and classes and people that I feel like I am just a newbie. If you compare names on labels at quilt shows to names of people teaching in person and online...and then there are the magazines...wow!<br><br>I don't know why I find this so mystifying and overwhelming. Do you take advantage of these classes and organizations? How did you learn to do what you do? I see that many people offer free tutorials, videos, advice. I'm having a great time this week finally working on one of my old, old UFOs. I started this string quilt project at least two years ago. It's moved with me from California to Montana, and traveled back and forth several times, with stops in Arizona and Utah! One of my favorite quilt projects is a scrap quilt, so when I saw pictures of a string quilt, I jumped on it. I initially started sorting my scraps by color, but then I pulled my brights together and that seemed a better choice. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWkvq6kyg2Xmtu50UV067w-A0Rbc3WdTFfZdeRzMnsoV2qpZR5CB8gA0_V2OgXicnc9aMD18Zq-M0TD3VwbQOxNHRugvphxVwZjeje6tyNcJYMjqJHVRpgnqtTdzpkawcYJAWHF0kineg/s640/blogger-image--1527488752.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWkvq6kyg2Xmtu50UV067w-A0Rbc3WdTFfZdeRzMnsoV2qpZR5CB8gA0_V2OgXicnc9aMD18Zq-M0TD3VwbQOxNHRugvphxVwZjeje6tyNcJYMjqJHVRpgnqtTdzpkawcYJAWHF0kineg/s640/blogger-image--1527488752.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This is my setup at our California rental. One was a neighborhood get together since we have lived here in Montana for a year now and had not yet met all of our neighbors on our street. The other event was for my daughters birthday. Christina was born on December 18 so oftentimes her birthday gets added to the holiday mix. I decided to take advantage of the sparkly decorations and a clean once, entertain multiple times approach. I also used the same recipes (and some foods) for both parties. <div><br></div><div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">The festivities began when I hosted a wine tasting party for my daughter's 34th birthday. We had 11 guests. I joined a wine club to earn frequent flyer miles and received nine bottles of wines that would not otherwise be available to me here at the grocery stores in Montana. We printed wine tasting etiquette cards as well as tips on why wines were boldest, etc. then we made a game for the women to try to guess which unlabeled wine was a merlot, a cab, a Shiraz, etc. I didn't realize I knew so much about wines and tasting!
