Home of the Brave Quilt

I just finished this Home of the Brave Quilt.  Each time I do one of these I am humbled to the core, and just so very thankful.

I am thankful that I live in the United States of America.  I am thankful that so many young men and women defend our freedom, our rights, and our soil against the terrorists in the world. Honestly, I am thankful that I haven't lost a child or an in law in the Middle East.  I am thankful for all that I have.

Are you familiar with this project?  http://www.homeofthebravequilts.com/  One of the women in our guild is the west coast coordinator, so it's easy to be involved here.  The quilts in this project all follow the exact same pattern, but fabrics may vary.







After the quilt is presented, the coordinator gives me a certificate with the soldier's information and picture.

It is a very moving and spiritual time for me.
 
 It is customary for the makers of the quilt as well as other quilters to sign the center square with encouraging words.

Jenny's First Quilt

This is Jenny's very first quilt.  She did a fabulous job for a first.   I really wanted to add some jazz to this one.  

Miles from Anywhere in Utah

On the very edge of Utah, very near the Wyoming border, sits this abandoned home.  We drive past it every time we go to our place in Utah, and it never ceases to pique my interest.  What was their life like?  Solitary. Hard.  Adventurous.  and ???

How old is this home?  1840?  1880?  1900?  I would love to know.

Obviously they were ranchers.  Maybe they had a neighbor a mile or so away at one point in time.  

 Did she make quilts in this home?

 I think the builder did a great job - this one doesn't appear to be leaning much at all.  I couldn't get any closer.  It was completely fenced from the Hwy.

Don't you just love rainbows!  I couldn't resist catching this one.  I tried to use the panoramic feature on my iphone but for some reason it wouldn't comply.

Is this a Church or a School? Wyoming, Utah and Idaho...

I love imagining what went on in really old buildings, particularly when you are tooling around Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho and you have been driving for 30 minutes and have seen absolutely nothing other than mountains, fencing, cattle, and a lone ranch house.  Those buildings become so exciting, don't they?

So what do you think?  Is this an old school?  This building is in Ovid, Idaho, (population maybe 20) and is in the heart of Mormon pioneer country, so one would think it would be an old Mormon church, right?

 But maybe it is an old school house.  Do you think so?

 The next time I go, I am going to try to sneak into the inside, or at least get a peak through an open hole!

So then, as you drive around the area a bit more, and you dip into Wyoming, you can't help but see antelope, can you?  These antelope were much closer, but as I approached the fence, they took off!  Can you spot them?  They are the little tiny light spots in the center of the frame.  

So different from the deer that live in my area.  These antelope were fast!
