Tea Party Meets Feathers

This is Carolyn's sweet quilt, and it has a beautiful story.  Carolyn's mother made the center blocks before she passed away.  Carolyn added to the blocks and finished the top to give to her sister as a Christmas gift.  I tried to keep a unified theme from border to border and not add too many different motifs.  I used Glide thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

 I love it when you can actually see your work from the back, don't you?

Feathers Galore - Scrappy Triple Irish Chain

I just finished Laura's Triple Irish Chain.  The only request Laura had was for feathers and she wanted it special - it's a gift for her parents.  I used my arc and made a plastic template.  I marked each corner with the template with my marvy marker.  I was able to do the feathers, pebbles as well as the frames all in one motion, just one start and one stop.  The feather border was measured, marked, and then remeasured and marked, hmmm.

Early Morning Quilting

This sweet spiderweb quilt is getting a bit of traditional feathering...

What is your favorite time of the day for your quilting/piecing?

I am infatuated with the spiderweb quilt now, and will have to make one soon with my scraps!  What is the one quilt you MUST make next?

Traditional Quilting on Theresa's Quilt

Theresa made this extra-king-sized quilt for her brother and sister-in-law for their 50th wedding anniversary.  She has been making quilts for awhile, but this is the first quilt she made, and worked on it for over three years.  I was so honored to be asked to quilt this for her, and then super excited because she asked me to custom quilt it!

Because this is a traditional pattern, I felt I should stay with that and keep my quilting traditional, too.  I used So Fine! green in the bottom, Hobbs 80/20 batting, and either So Fine! or Glide in the top.

This quilt is so big, that I had a difficult time fitting the whole thing in my camera lens.  

 Thank goodness for my new machine, an Innova 22" with lightening stitch.

 Both of us love this white feathered area the best!  Isn't that great?

 I did some super curling featheres in the border along with piano keys.

I love how this turned out, and I am so thankful that I got to quilt it!

Am I Really Early or Really Late?

Okay, I admit I am late in making this Christmas wreath...  but I am really early for Christmas 2012!  I am still on a stash busting bonanza, and needed my feather fix!  I haven't stitched feathers in a week or two.  This was really fun to make and I enjoyed quilting it, too.  I sure hope I can get the binding on within the next 11 months...

Freehand Feathers and Stash Busting!

I needed to practice my freehand feathers before I jump in on a beautiful quilt of Laura's.  I can make a feather, I just needed to practice the sizing, movement and "feel" of the overall feathers.  My first instinct was to grab some solid muslin and have yet an

other practice piece with no purpose.  But then I thought, use up some of that backing fabric you've got laying around!  Bust some stash!!  So, I grabbed a cute piece of baby fabric with some cuddly minkie-type fleece and voila, this is what I came up with.
