Is this a Church or a School? Wyoming, Utah and Idaho...

I love imagining what went on in really old buildings, particularly when you are tooling around Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho and you have been driving for 30 minutes and have seen absolutely nothing other than mountains, fencing, cattle, and a lone ranch house.  Those buildings become so exciting, don't they?

So what do you think?  Is this an old school?  This building is in Ovid, Idaho, (population maybe 20) and is in the heart of Mormon pioneer country, so one would think it would be an old Mormon church, right?

 But maybe it is an old school house.  Do you think so?

 The next time I go, I am going to try to sneak into the inside, or at least get a peak through an open hole!

So then, as you drive around the area a bit more, and you dip into Wyoming, you can't help but see antelope, can you?  These antelope were much closer, but as I approached the fence, they took off!  Can you spot them?  They are the little tiny light spots in the center of the frame.  

So different from the deer that live in my area.  These antelope were fast!  

More Contemporary Fun!

 If I make two quilts from the same pattern back to back, is that just because I love the way they look, or is it bordering on obsession?  I think I may be obsessed.  While I am making the second one, I am imagining the third and fourth.  This could become a problem, considering I have deadlines approaching, and they don't include Urban Birthday patterns.

I was having fun with my camera yesterday.   I thought I would show off the gorgeous scenery I have all around me.  You can see the mountains above the fence line.  

This version of an Urban Birthday quilt is destined for our condo in Utah.  It has lots of blank walls that need some excitement! 

And here is that cute little wall hanging laying on the front lawn, with the beautiful oaks in the background.  The butterfly bushes haven't bloomed yet, but when they do, they really do attract monarch butterflies.

And then I couldn't resist this beautiful clematis climbing up to reach the arbor.  I just love my new camera!

And I have no idea what this is!  I have several of these growing on a tree in the front yard.  I planted the tree about six years ago, and can't remember the species.  This is the first time I have noticed it to bloom.

 

I Wonder What Quilts Were Made Here...

I have an attraction to old, abandoned homes and barns.  I don't have many pictures of them, though, because I am usually in a hurry, or my husband doesn't want to keep stopping every few miles.  Last week while on vacation in beautiful Bear Lake Idaho/Utah, I had time to take some pictures.  Can you see the view of the lake that these pioneers enjoyed?

I am also a curious person by nature.  I wonder who lived in these places, and what their lives might have been like.  I wonder what types of quilts kept them warm, and what they looked like...

...a bit of travel...not much quilting

I received a camera from my windfarmer for Christmas.  With no longarm to quilt with, I am playing with my camera.  I have soooo much to learn.  I have learned that I want a new lens, something with a lower aperture number, and bigger zoom.  I need to sell my Minolta lenses now. 

We are in Utah now.  This is a view of the lake from just above our place.  We have a great view, too, just not one with snow in the foreground.  We came here to ski, but we've only got a 24" base!  So unusual for Utah in January!

Today we went for a ride to Pocatello Idaho to one of our favorite restaurants, Buddy's.  It is near Idaho State University.  On the way, we came across some wild turkeys.  This is a first for me.  Love the barn in the background, don't you? 

 And finally, on our way home, I was able to get my windfarmer to stop the car long enough for me to shoot three pics of the sunset.  Love it!
